Hi,
I'm Julian and I'm looking for an actor and an actress for my graduation film as a media designer image and sound, who should take on the role of the leading actress Ana and supporting actor Sandro. Unfortunately, there is no budget for the film, but catering will of course be provided. The concept for my short film is as follows:
Sometimes you just don't know what to do. The goal is within reach, but still endlessly far away. This feature film is about an art student called Ana, who is almost dying because of this very problem.
Ana has her first presentation of her work at a famous art exhibition in Berlin in two weeks' time. But she can't manage to put anything - not even a line - on paper. While she is working in her studio, she is snapped out of her delusions by a close classmate called Sandro. He pays her an impromptu visit because he has noticed her conspicuously long abstinence. Together they want to find a solution to her problem.
At the beginning, Sandro looks at her latest works. He immediately notices that something is different. All the pictures radiate a strong negativity and incongruity - something he had never seen from her before. Ana begins to talk about the background to the paintings, and every time she touches the works, flashbacks are triggered. All the flashbacks are from the POV perspective and show scenes in which people criticize her art with contempt. The touching of the paintings becomes more and more frantic, and the jumps between reality and flashbacks faster and faster, until the scene reaches its climax in a very specific memory.
Ana has a date on which she is given a bracelet - a bracelet that looks as generic and unremarkable as any other. But with a few words, such as "You can't earn anything with art" and "You should rather set yourself something safe and simple as a goal in life", the viewer is snapped out of the flashback back to the studio.
Sandro has finally recognized the problem, whereupon the two of them enter the study. Surprisingly, he finds an old childhood picture of Ana on the shelf, glowing with hope and beauty. She remembers the day and an old, beautiful memory is awakened in her:
Ana is on a beautiful beach with her brother. She grabs the sand and points into the distance, to where the horizon lies - infinitely far away, where the river flows into the sea. There exists a vast world full of limitless possibilities. If life has created us as we are today, in an infinitely large universe, on a tiny little dot - like the grains of sand on the beach - then what should stop her from fully developing her own freedom?
Ana has finally understood what she has been missing all this time: It was the freedom she had taken from herself through the opinions of others. The doubts of others that she reflected on herself. She finally takes off the bracelet that symbolizes the barricades and her own restrictions. The short film ends with Ana picking up bright colors and unconventional tools again - and leaving the picture with a cheerful, lively look.
