About the character:
Otto Brunssen was an orphan boy from the street who, after many setbacks, managed to become a non-commissioned officer in the Prussian army. He served in the Napoleonic War and saved Officer Jansen on the battlefield. This heroic deed earned him a badge and after the war he was stationed at the Petersberg Citadel.
